About the Company Starbucks opened its first store in 1971 in the city of Seattle, Washington. Three men by the names of Jerry Baldwin, Zev Siegl and Gordon Bowker came up with idea of the shop from Alfred Peet, also known from Peet’s Coffee Fame (Starbucks, 2015). In the beginning Starbucks only sold coffee beans and equipment and not so much the beverages they are known for these days. By 1981, Starbucks acquired Howard Scuhltz to be their Director of Retail Operations. Shortly after he started, he pitched the idea of selling beverages along with their other items. He was unsuccessful in convincing the owners, so he went on to start up his own coffee bar chain, named Il Gioranale in 1985. In 1986, the owners sold the company to Mr. Schultz who then renamed his chain to Starbucks. This caused his company to grow and expand. The chain expanded across the U.S. and then later went on to branch out internationally. One of the first countries to welcome Starbucks was Japa n located in thriving Tokyo. Throughout the years, Starbucks went on to acquire other coffee house chains such as Peet’s and Seattle’s Best Coffee as well as taking over other locations. By the 90’s, Starbucks had shops in over 50 countries across the world, although their biggest presence remains in the U.S. with over 11,000 locations, and to this day continues to grow even more. This concept is hidden in the play â€Å"Trifles†, written by Susan Glaspell in 1916. Taking place in the early 1900s, the script is based off of the common social patterns of that time period. The plot is centered around the murder of Mr. Wright by his wife, who was socially and emotionally neglected by him.
